Installation: I installed them in a box first to check the hole size/height as we have 8 to 15lb cats. This is a good idea as using the lid as a template will create an oversized opening. Another small issue was that our door has decorative panels which turned out to be a bit thinner than the cat flap minimum thickness, but some sealers fixed that. I also felt that the included screws were quite difficult to screw in. Cat Friendly: One of our cats learned to use the door within hours after I held her open and then pushed a few times. Another followed the next day and after about 4 days we had 5/6 cats using it at least a few times. Weather Resistance: The day after installing the door, the wind blew preventing the sash from closing, so we just installed the door. Slide the cover. On "normal" days the damper closes quite normally and even when the temperature is around 45F (about as cold as here) there are almost no drafts. We like the sliding lid (partly why we bought it) because we only let our cats out during the day and we expect at least one of them to figure out a normal slip closure. It also further eliminates drafts.
