I bought a pair of these mats thinking I would use them outside although at the moment both mats are still inside. They seem sturdy and seem like they're good for wiping the mud off your shoes before you step inside. Since I have them inside, I find it better to have something softer and more absorbent to wick the remaining moisture out of my shoes before heading further indoors. But with a thick layer of tufted polyester, I can never get to the layer that actually rubs the soles of my shoes so they're still wet, just not dirt. According to the product description, it is comfortable barefoot. I didn't spend much time standing on it barefoot, but I didn't find it particularly comfortable. Better than standing on gravel, but not as comfortable as, for example, on grass. mine is outside!).
