Leaves metal filings when used according to manufacturer's instructions

I've seen reviews from others that this opener leaves metal filings on the edge of the can after opening. I thought maybe someone misused it or someone has a defective unit so I ordered it to be sure. Of course, the first and every can I opened with it had metal splinters on the outer edge of the can when I opened it. I followed the manufacturer's instructions and didn't get past one turn of the can, but I still got metal splinters every time. Luckily, the metal splinters stick out on the outside of the rim of the glass, not on the inside, but if you're not very careful there's a chance the shards could end up in the glass or in the food when you remove them. from the bank. If it wasn't for this critical flaw, the rest of the can opener works perfectly. It's easy to fix the glass in place. It's easy to push and hold the lever as it rotates and opens. It's easy to remove the latch and remove the glass. The open lid can be lifted easily. I wish the cord was a few inches longer. It barely reaches the outlet above the counter. Regardless, the metal splinters this opener creates makes it useless to our family. i will return it I have already ordered a replacement, the Kuhn Rikon 2262 Auto Safety Opener manual can opener. It's the same "safe" design as this one, which leaves no sharp edges on the lid, but this one doesn't leave metal splinters, at least not yet. So far so good with that. I'll try to remember to update this review if that ever changes.
