I bought this to move my cable modem. The house has a central hub where all Ethernet cables meet and where you usually place your modem, router or switch. The problem was that the feedthrough box installed in the wall between the posts was too small to accommodate these items with adequate circulation. So I used it to connect the living room patch cord to the office patch cord in the hub. I then set up my cable modem in my living room and effectively connected it directly to my office router. In the other rooms I didn't need a direct Ethernet connection. Either way, you literally don't have to think about using them. The connection was solid with no noticeable speed/transmission loss. Excellent purchase!
