Review on 🚚 Lund 601021 Hitch Mounted Truck Bed Extender, Black: Enhance Bed Capacity and Versatility by Sean Young

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very well done but not perfect.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this bed extender and how strong and heavy it is. For the price I don't think there is anything better. I did a lot of research before choosing Lund and I have no regrets. I installed it on a 2018 Toyota Tacoma to carry two 14ft kayaks. The T-bar is in the lowest position at bed level and the diagonal support bar is in the rearmost position to accommodate 14-foot kayaks. With these settings, this is consistent with Lund's warning that cargo (kayaks) should not extend more than 6ft past the trailing edge of the tailgate when lowered. The kayaks extend about 3 feet past the T-bar. While the extension is well built (strong and beefy, with good solid welds), the components are fairly loosely connected, including the hitch receiver. I'm not overly concerned about that and I think that's the price you pay for adjustability. Nothing will fall off and when the kayaks are tied down they will be pretty stable. I plan to attach rubber tubing to the posts (1-1/2" ID should give a snug fit) to protect the kayaks, and the T-bar (1-3/4" square) with either carpet or rubber to cover. some kind of padding, also to protect the t-bar. I will update after use but the build quality, ease of installation, instructions etc everything is top notch! Good job Lund! A word of warning or caution for Tacoma owners or anyone with a truck with a tailgate camera. Just understand that the camera is useless when the tailgate is in the down position, so you always have to remember that when reversing or turning you have extra "cargo" behind you!
