Review on BaoFeng BF 888S Two Radio Pack by Jump Robinson

Great product for the price

I have bought a 20 pack twice already. These are fantastic little devices that I always rely on. But you must understand their limitations. These are 2w radios so they don't transmit well through walls (you can go through a wall in convention centers but no more). They work best within line of sight.) The quality isn't perfect, but for communicating in a simple venue, from home to the beach or even on a ski mountain, they work great. And at this price point, you don't care if your kids lose one. There are many (cheap) accessories. Baofeng uses "Kenwood" or "K-1" pin configuration for cables and accessories. Processing quality is ok. (Great for the price) Out of my 40 radios, one unit and one battery didn't work right away, but who cares about $10? The remaining 39 units work very well. I didn't write to ask for a replacement so I can't comment on customer service. BUY A DATA CABLE and REPROGRAM the radio. This is especially important as many users don't reprogram, so the preset channels become overused. Reprogramming takes you to "silent" channels. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PROGRAM. You must avoid frequencies used by authorities such as police, rescue teams, airplanes, etc. SO YOU MUST HAVE A WORK LICENSE! The preset channels are in frequency bands that require an amateur radio license! This is another reason to reprogram the radio. By reprogramming your radio to "public" FRS channels, you avoid interference on "important" frequencies and are unlikely to "get in trouble". Reprogramming this or any other Baofeng radio is easy. With a cable and the free online CHIRP program, you can create a channel profile for your use and then upload it to any of your radio stations. The program works like an Excel spreadsheet. It can download sets of radio channels from the radio (you can save them as files, like radio presets in your car!) and then upload them to other radios to create clones that can talk to each other. Useful "Links" (sorry I can't post URLs here) Get information and get certified from the National Amateur Radio Association website. Learn more about FRS by researching online using wiki or other information retrieval systems. Get CHIRP by just researching that name; You will see the author of "DanPlanet".
