This tap broke in the second hole I tried to cut in aluminum. While this is a good idea, the poor quality material of taps makes them difficult (and expensive) to use. a "low gear" speed setting and a torque setting set to low. When the bit reaches the thread grooves, downshift, drive at low speed, shift into reverse and remove the bit/tap every few threads. (This cleans the tap's threads and reduces the risk of breakage.) As with any drill, it works better in metal if you drill a smaller pilot hole first. inch thick) aluminum or brass. (Use WD-40 to lubricate holes in aluminum.) I wouldn't try to cut steel with it. Two (weak) stars for inferior materials and no instructions included with the drill/tap.
