GARBAGE! for my opinion

The cam mechanism is junk. It's too sophisticated for what they charge. It it were made to work reliably, it would cost much more.I followed all the instructions, and last step is insert the cam. It wouldn't thread on. Finally I got one to thread on, but then it wouldn't thread back off. IT WON'T THREAD BACK OFF! It won't snug up, and won't come back off either! Too many reviews say this to not be true! I had to cut the exposed section and remove with vise grips. Praise to the DIY gods It wasn't pulled tight, as I was doing test fit. The second one in the pack was same. Had to cut it.It wasn't pulled tight due to amount of shoulder on the bolts, in relation to the depth of holes I drilled. Other comments mention the dimensions are off in the instructions.Long story short: Went to Home Depot and got regular rail mount bolts and it went together. I also purchased an oak dowel for plugging the holes. Which is another point; the plugs that come in the kit don't fit the hole size THEY TELL YOU to drill. The only challenge was drilling hole in newel on an angle. That's why I like the swivel bolt idea, and would have used it with a nut. But NOOOOOO, Zip Bolt uses a proprietary thread, that is also left hand thread. You can't just get a nut to use with the bolt.FYI: If you can't find stair rail bolts, get Hanger Bolts and nuts from drawers in the hardware section. The difference with this is the actual rail bolts come with a cool half round washer. I am thinking of cutting a piece of dowel in half and drilling hole through it, to use for washer. Also get a 1 inch dowel rod for plugging access holes. .

Pros
  • ‎Steel, Zinc, Alloy
Cons
  • The connectors may require additional hardware to fully secure them in place
