EASILY CONNECT ANGLED HANDRAILS TO NEWEL POSTS – Perfect for stairway post joints, this angled railbolt kit adjusts to the ideal angle to perfectly align the lower connection of an angled handrail to a newel post. FAST INSTALLATION – Attaching handrails to fittings is no longer a tedious, time consuming process. Wax and screw the railbolt into the reamed newel post, place the housing gear inside the railing, and tighten the gear with the included 5mm hex bit using a screwdriver or cordless drill. NOTE: Impact drivers should not be used when tightening the gear housing. DURABLE CONSTRUCTION – Made with quality steel for maximum durability, these Zipbolts incorporate a double knuckle joint with a hardened pin. Created by professionals for residential and commercial use, they provide a solid and stable connection without the frustration of traditional methods. INNOVATIVE PATENTED DESIGN – Zipbolt offers a distinctive patented gear drive that outperforms all others in terms of functionality. The innovative UT gear-driven mechanism eliminates the issues associated with conventional techniques of joining stair newels to rails. The railbolt housing's distinctive open channel allows the housing to be dropped directly on the shaft, eliminating the need for nuts and washers.

Not worth the hassle.

I've purchased this item to install a new banister/rail. It seemed very easy to install from the videos I've seen but when I received the product it Was rusted and oxidized. I was hesitant to use it because of that issue alone but decided to give it a shot anyway. The instructions was not clear at all and after some time tinkering with the bolt itself (lubricated because of the oxidation). I ended with striping the bolt because it was stuck and would not move.Update! On March 31,2016 after…

  • The connectors may be difficult to remove if adjustments need to be made

Be careful when using with hardwood!

Be careful in hardwood! I read the reviews and direction of going into hardwood. 1/4 inch into hardwood and boring out the hole in oak will not do it! I bored out the hole and screwed the bolt in. I used a wrench on the angle to try and relieve some pressure on it also. A few more turns and it would have been in but it snapped. I had to take a larger metal drill bit and drill the whole thing out. I inserted a poplar dowl and made another 1/4 inch whole and put the new bolt in by hand. My lesson

Pros
  • ‎Drill Bits
Cons
  • The connectors may not fit snugly or securely enough, leading to wobbling or instability

Cheap product, snapped, do not buy

Not well made.I followed the instructions exactly and screwed one bolt in at the top with no issue, but while screwing the second one into the Newell post at the bottom of my stairs, the hinged area began to buckle, and when I tried to straighten it out and continue, the brittle metal just snapped, leaving me with just the lag section protruding 1/4 inch, and the oak railing already pre drilled, now with no means of attaching it.The post I was screwing into was just primered plywood, and I had…

Pros
  • Can be used to connect lower connection posts
Cons
  • The connectors may be too small or difficult to work with for some users

Great idea, but low quality.

Great idea, but low quality. I had two of the four that I ordered strip during use and I did not over tighten and it was a nightmare to cut them out of my newel post. Again, the idea is great, but in my opinion they lack quality in the tighten/ torque section. I would not recommend this product.

Pros
  • Newel Posts
Cons
  • The connectors may not be strong enough to withstand heavy use or constant wear and tear

GARBAGE! for my opinion

The cam mechanism is junk. It's too sophisticated for what they charge. It it were made to work reliably, it would cost much more.I followed all the instructions, and last step is insert the cam. It wouldn't thread on. Finally I got one to thread on, but then it wouldn't thread back off. IT WON'T THREAD BACK OFF! It won't snug up, and won't come back off either! Too many reviews say this to not be true! I had to cut the exposed section and remove with vise grips. Praise to the DIY gods It…

Pros
  • ‎Steel, Zinc, Alloy
Cons
  • The connectors may require additional hardware to fully secure them in place

The concept works best for new installation

In the process of reattach rails, the challenge was how to find the correct center point. The instruction asks to locate center before cutting angles, but for remodel it won't happen. From basic geometry I concurred the center of uncut rail should be the center of the angled rail. It works but with some price to pay. Somehow I was convinced the rail is a bit too long when dry fitting, but it is lacking 1/8 or so after installation no matter how tight I drive the RailBolt bolt. Thus measure and…

Pros
  • Comes in a bulk pack of 40, providing ample supply for larger projects
Cons
  • The product may not be environmentally friendly or sustainable

Had higher hopes good for me

We found this to be very difficult to secure. It’s a great idea if you have an angled handrail, but you can’t use one bolt up top and one bolt on the base at the same time because there’s no way to slide the handrail into two different bolt holes. And you can’t do one at a time. One of ours bolt broke off into the newel when trying to twist it into place. This sounded so good on paper for what we needed for our angled handrail, but using this was pretty difficult

Pros
  • ‎40
Cons
  • The connectors may require a lot of prep work to ensure a successful installation

Fine Product. The Instructions Could Be Clearer.

The product is a good product, and it does that for which it is designed very well. However, the instructions could be made clearer, I think. A re-write would make it easier for a first-time user to prepare to use the product correctly.

Pros
  • Used for replacing stair railings. Much more secure than using nails.
Cons
  • When I installed the screws broke

Great idea, poorly constructed parts.

Brilliant in concept, but they are poorly made. The angle bolts broke in half when installing into a newel post leaving the bolt in the post. The zipbolt nut simply won’t grab unless you have it at just the right angle, which is nearly impossible with a railing at an angle. It’s a great design and concept, but mine all broke and can’t be installed. After 45 minutes of struggling with it all, I replaced it with a 6” lag screw which took all of 30 seconds to install and made a great connection.Save

Pros
  • ‎Zipbolt
Cons
  • The product may not be compatible with all types of handrails or newel posts

Works to a certain extent

The concept and design is great for attaching a rail to the post. However the construction is a little weak and the impression is that you won't want to put any stress on it while attaching it. Need to ensure a pre-drilled hole and screw in carefully and with some lube. I think this product can be further improved

Pros
  • Allows for easy installation of angled handrail to newel post
Cons
  • The connectors may be prone to stripping or other forms of damage during installation
