Review on DeoxIT Connector and Contact Solutions by Brian Buck

Best for consumers and new users

If you are new to Deoxit or a consumer this kit is a great way to get started as unless you are into electrical maintenance you probably won't use much. Use D100 for general cleaning, Gold for gold-plated contacts, Shield to protect non-gold-plated contacts from further oxidation, and Fader for carbon-based controls such as sliders or carbon pots, or connectors on plastic multi-plugs such as those found in cell phones. How well does it work? Very good for cleaning most electrical contacts. Deoxit has been around for over 30 years. It has proven its worth in cleaning metrological, aerospace and military instruments. This is not a silicone lube that sensitive equipment cannot tolerate. It uses a derivative of Kramolin, a 1950s invention that has now been slightly modified to meet new safety requirements. It's not as widely available as silicone, which is generic because it's Caig's proprietary formula. Simple application rule: apply D100 first, turn on switch or plug and unplug several times within 5 minutes. Delete everything superfluous. If it's a gold contact, don't necessarily use gold for sealing, otherwise use shielding. When cleaning plastic-based carbon, use only the fader. If you're not sure use the fader first, if it doesn't work use the D100. Over time I use the D5 or D100 more as they do most of the cleaning and use the rest fairly sparingly. these tubes contain concentrated Desoxit products. There are varieties of deoxide that contain harsh solvents that are easier to apply and dry faster [e.g. B. D5 5% cleaner, then progressively thinner, D100 only detergent and progressively thinner. The difference is that D100 does not evaporate, the excess has to be wiped off.]
