I love these covers but there are a few things you need to know before saying they don't work! The tabs on the sides of the lid are useful, but you still won't be able to remove the lid unless you do the following: 1) Before putting the lid on, rub the rubber seal with some coconut oil to smooth it out a bit greasy 2) do not turn too hard when putting on the lid! As soon as you feel the lid screwed shut, stop! 3) When removing the lid, first push the valve sideways to pop the jar open, then run the lid under warm water. The warm water will melt the coconut oil and help the pad slide. I don't use the fermentation lid. Lettuce has a habit of being wasted in my house and I blame myself for all the produce that ends up in the compost. So I put a bunch of shredded lettuce in a 2 liter jar and sucked out the oxygen. I think the salad was good for a month!
