Review on MASTERCOOL 52225 Infrared Thermometer Laser by Jonathan Davenport

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good instrument but not accurate on IR

This is a good little versatile instrument and the contact thermometer part is accurate as far as I can tell. However, for some reason, the IR thermometer shows 2-3 degrees less. I contacted Mastercool Support and they said to return the product for repair or exchange, which I did. This is my second (replacement) unit and its readings are as low as the first. Mastercool support then said to adjust the emissivity setting so that the IR sensor reads the same as the contact sensor. This is not an acceptable solution as I tested a surface with an emissivity of 0.95 according to the emissivity charts and the device was set to E of 0.95 so the IR reading should be correct. If I need to misadjust the E setting, I don't have a clear idea of how to set it when I'm reading a different type of material. I would have to re-use the contact sensor each time, which would be a big problem when switching to reading other materials. I will be returning this device and trying a different brand.
