Bought 22nd July 2018 and stopped working November 2018 Only 5 Months! It was fairly easy to set up and worked with minor issues until the 5 month mark when it stopped connecting to my modem. After spending a day with Spectrum to troubleshoot their modem, we were convinced it was a problem with the Netgear router. So. I called Netgear to fix or replace my broken router. I get transferred to India where the tech tells me he can fix it, no problem but I have to buy a 'Technical Support Guarantee' which goes from a 6 month plan for $89 to a 2nd month -Annual plan worth hundreds of dollars ranges. After explaining that it's only 5 months old and should be under warranty, he tells me that my 90 day free tech support has expired and I have to give him the money if I want the modem fixed. We argued for 45 minutes. It was like total blackmail. No matter how many times I asked for a replacement, he refused and said I had to buy at least a $90 6 month plan. Then he will try to fix it and if he can't they send me a replacement. I asked him what will happen in 6 months and my tech support ended and then my router mysteriously fails again. Can I buy another package for 6 months? How long does this scam last to make me spend more than I bought a new router every 6 months? He insists that once he fixes it, it will never go bad again. Complete scam! He ran a few tests before explaining the scam job of holding my 5 month old router hostage for $$. After studying the results, it became clear that this is a hardware issue and needs to be replaced. So I'll call you back. retreat to India. I am asking a new gentleman, can I speak to customer service in America to get a replacement? No, he can't. He then begins the same commercial as the other man. As soon as I pay and he thinks it's a hardware issue he will replace it. I told him I could buy a new one for as much as the cheapest $90 option. He insists that this would be a mistake and that I need to purchase their 6 month support plan. Exhausted from the terrible customer service, I declined and hung up. I can't find a way to speak to a real US customer service representative to replace a defective product that is under warranty. My 10 year old Belkin router magically still works (I bought a Netgear as a spare thinking I'd get better speed) so all I can do is go back to the Belkin and try to warn everyone I do Netgear may not support their products, they will not help you repair or replace a Netgear router if it fails within 90 days, and they have nothing resembling good customer service. It's clear that their only job is to sell you additional packages of technical services and nothing else. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I find it odd that the router was working fine but magically after 90 days of "free tech support" the router suddenly magically stopped connecting to the modem and with very little information it didn't really a problem they can fix immediately. But. Only if you shell out $$$. And yes, if they can't fix it, they'll send you a replacement and keep your $90. 6 months later I see a new problem and a new scam. My advice: stay away from Netgear products. If a company refuses to let you speak to a US representative to replace a product that is still under warranty, you can, like me, end up with a $100 paperweight that costs $90 to repair costs. What a waste of money, time and sanity.
