I use these conical countersinks a lot on decking and frames, they really help keep the ends from splitting but keep them in a better piece. They work very well, but if you don't give them a break, the collet will expand and slip off. Keep the small Allen key that comes with the kit as you will need to keep tightening it. This works for a while and then the base wrench at the bottom just pops loose, you can subtly tuck the end of the taper in, it still works but slips off if you press too hard on the hardwood.
