Material stuck to my face =-) and after research decided I go for these DTs - 990. I chose 250 ohms because they will never be plugged into a small device and when I plug them directly into my keyboard they work fine but a bit boring I think using an amp will help bring them to life. One thing that let me down was that the cup body felt cheap. I've bought a lot of cheap kids headphones over the years that I don't mind if they break, and I've bought studio headphones from Sony and Sennheiser, both seem to be well built and have fallen off from time to time. Floor no problem. Feeling the material and the movement of the DT-990 makes me feel like I need to better protect them so they don't break. Also, when I watched videos of the rave reviews for this headset, I didn't notice that these cans don't fold, twist or turn, in fact I just measured that they only have 30 degrees of movement. Maybe it was reviews of closed can models that had more movement and I assumed they were too, too bad I didn't pay attention. Plugged directly into my keyboard and mixer, my dirty old Sony MDR-7506s sound noticeably better (without using a headphone amp) and more complex. The outer shell seems cheap and easy to break, but it's probably just an outer cosmetic shell that, if hacked, won't affect the functionality of the headset. I expected more from Beyerdynamic just because of the YouTube reviews and I feel like I was scammed by the reviews or the seller selling a fake at full price. I wouldn't buy them again and could just return them by buying another Sony for $99. and get better sound, better build, more movement AND get my $75 back on my original purchase. The ONLY thing I really like about this DT-990 is that I intentionally bought the open can version to let the ambient sound through when playing drums or keyboards with a live band, and even though I use them haven't used it live yet. , makes practicing the drums a little more fun since I don't have to put the mic on top of the kit and mix the drums into my headphones. If I leave these guys, that will be the ONLY reason I'm leaving them.
