- My first experience with Micro-Mash was with a stainless steel scratch remover kit. I haven't used it on a sink but it worked great on various other stainless steel pieces and worked *even better* on tropical hardwoods - the polish applied to Gabon Ebony etc was actually reflective - not like a mirror of course. but it doesn't look like anything I've seen before on raw wood. - So I bought this set. As described they are all full size 3" X 4" - I did not measure the thickness of the foam layer but it is thick enough to write the grit measurements on the page with an ultra fine marker. ((That was the first thing I did, just to make things easier.)) - And yes, they work great! I like them sooooo much more than sandpaper because they don't "scatter" the sand and the abrasive works really well. - Now I routinely *buy* "big wood" like guitar neck blanks, other woods for craftsmen, and other pieces that are smaller and fairly smooth to begin with, simply because I don't have it and can't find it in a well stocked shop. Also, everything I make is pretty small anyway. So for leveling prepared wood, "sanding" between top coats, etc. They are excellent. - Common sense should tell you that given what they do well they don't know much about raw lumber, salvaged barn beams etc; they are NOT "first pass" sanding pads. Of course, we all know *someone* is going to give them a star for not working on turning salvaged railroad ties into glassy works of art, LOL! But seriously, I really like them for musical instruments, miniatures and the like because they work very well, much cleaner than sandpaper, and the sponge/foam layer conforms to curves and surface imperfections.
