Out of the box these tread covers were a little deeper than I needed but I found them fairly easy to cut with a regular box cutter and a straight edge. I am not giving 5 stars because the front of each cover was angled incorrectly, making it difficult to hold them flush to the stair nosing with double sided tape or "industrial strength" adhesive sealant. I installed them on the basement stairs to make them safer for my elderly mother. Instead, popping noses can present a tripping hazard. I ended up pinning them to the front of the ladder's nose, but I might end up just cutting off the nose and throwing it away. The protectors are pleasant to the touch, almost soft, you can walk on them. They hold up very well - it's almost impossible to slip on them! I can't say anything about the durability yet, but in my case there won't be much movement up the stairs. For heavier traffic, you may need the industrial version, which costs about five times as much.
