First washed in cold water and hung to dry, and they sat down. The next time I ran them through the dryer on low, they are now completely unusable, not just tight. I don't think even enlarging them helps as they shrink a lot. Even the size XL was borderline from the start. It probably should have tried XXL, but now it won't because of the excessive shrinkage.
