Always use a manual meter, don't trust anything electronic.
I replaced the transmitter unit and the sensor also gets 20-30 degrees warmer than the manual one. I trust the manual because I have a new 180* thermostat and they match. an electronic gauge on the dash (not much) so I always use manual oil and temp gauges.
