Review on 🚣 Enhanced Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier for Roof by Ryan Person

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This item works, but it takes practice and some installation experience.

Installing our Hullavator on a 2017 Outback was no easy task, but we found a place in town that had experience. It initially took us about 30 minutes from start to finish to set up the kayak at the top. The brackets must be installed first as they are too big and bulky to leave standing permanently and also too high to get under the garage door. Assembling the bracket and installing the locking pins takes practice and now we can do it in just a few minutes. . Once in place, attaching the kayak and raising it to the top position is easy. I recommend purchasing the Thule Quick Loop Straps Thule 530 Quick Loop Strap, Black (2-pack) to secure the front and back of the kayak rather than messing around with front and back tow bolt placement. What we end up with is a 12ft kayak that would be difficult to transport in a van or pickup but fits perfectly in the Hullavator. Note that I said "we" instead of "I". If you're under six feet tall and have strong arms and shoulders, installing the mounts is a two-person job: one holding the mounts in place and the other inserting the locking pins (and even then, practice helps). The gas struts allow the little person to raise and lower the kayak without outside help. Only 4 hands are required to install the carrycot. Be sure to follow the instructions to check the harnesses and ropes after the first 5 miles to make sure nothing has come loose.
