I learned how to install them after 15 minutes of agony. It's still a bit confusing, but not terrible. I put them on the rear wheels of my Ford Ranger. It works really well in the snow with them (and terrible without them). Several times I had to drive through a small plow heap, like when the plow crossed my driveway and left a foot of snow on it. Both times I managed to get through the pile, but one of the chains broke. (no damage) The first time I tried to move forward with one of them. I was trying to climb a steep hill with 4 inches of snow on the ice. I could not do it. I could see how badly it was sticking as I slammed on the brakes and my truck slid back onto its side without the chain. The bar with the chain stayed in place. I went down the hill, put on the second chain and went up with no problems. Overall I am very grateful to them for the safety and I think they are worth it.
