I love this kitchen island. This is exactly what I was looking for. It was also pretty easy to assemble. I painted and assembled the tree while my husband was at work. All he had to do was help me carry the box back to the house where the UPS courier had left it because it's so heavy! Originally I was going to leave the top unstained and just use block cut oil and wax. However after using it for a few days I decided I never want to use a knife on a nice top so I ended up painting and varnishing it so it was waterproof and still nice. I also made an extra shelf for the island and made more holes to accommodate it. Now it's just perfect. This is a very durable and stable piece of furniture. I put large felt pads on the bottom of the legs to keep them from scratching the hard wood floors. Felt pads allow me to move it around easily when I want to, but it's pretty heavy and won't go anywhere unless I want to. All in all, this is a great item for the price.
