I didn't want to return it and was told they would resend the item and I could take out the screw/knob/pins and send the rest back. I bought this table because of its size so I can put it under the pot and pan stand so I don't hit my head. The table is solid, heavy and well made. It comes completely unfinished. I used Ebony, Provence and Red Oak wax on the bottom and oil and wax on the top. The shelves are very stable and adjustable. I love this kitchen island. This is exactly what I was looking for. It was also pretty easy to assemble. I painted and assembled the tree while my husband was at work. All he had to do was help me carry the box back to the house where the UPS courier had left it because it's so heavy! Originally I was going to leave the top unstained and just use block cut oil and wax. However after using it for a few days I decided I never want to use a knife on a nice top so I ended up painting and varnishing
