I wanted to check the current of several electrical appliances in the house including the fridge, microwave and toaster oven. By plugging this in-line splitter between the wall outlet and the device, I was able to easily measure the current with my clamp-on ammeters without having to cut or modify the wires in any way. The 1x loop is the main loop I use as my meter has a wide current range (1mA to 100A) and makes direct measurements easy, but the 10x loop comes in handy if you have a meter that only can measure across high currents, and you want to measure low currents - you just need to divide the current you are measuring by 10 to get the actual current. For example, if you use a 10x circuit and measure 15 amps of current, there are actually 1.5 amps flowing in the circuit.
