I prefer the board game Catan, of which this is an adaptation. In this game, the rules are simplified, so there is much less freedom than in a real game. This can be frustrating for experienced players, but makes it easier for new players to get started. The game is also easy to transport. A real Catan game has a board of interlocking pieces, so it transforms every game; but the cube has only one fixed board setting. One feature of the game that I don't like is the single-use scorecards. In a real Catan game you have a playing field with elements that can be reused. In the dice version, you mark your moves on a piece of paper (included) instead of placing the pieces on the board. Then throw the papers (in the bin) at the end of each game. Instead of that junk I laminated a few pages and added dry erase markers to the set.
