I started experimenting with Home Assistant about a year ago and only recently (a few months ago) decided to upgrade my unreliable Wink hub with this little ZigBee/Zwave dongle substitute. Coupled with my existing Home Assistant server, I've never looked back and threw my Wink Hub in the e-waste heap. Setup was relatively easy in Ubuntu 18.04, and connecting devices is done right within Home Assistant. Now that Wink is holding your hub and devices hostage with their ridiculous "subscribe for a week for $5 a month or lose all Wink features," this is one of the best ways to take back control of your devices (without paying for stupid subscriptions). ). Compared to Wink and other smart home cloud hubs, this dongle allows you to fully manage your devices locally. This means lights/switches etc will be more responsive and your smart home will be much more reliable (assuming your server setup is ok). In Wink, my lights would sometimes turn on within minutes of being toggled on/off in the Wink app, but now with this dongle and Home Assistant, my lights/switches turn on/off almost instantly when in the HA app be switched. I cannot praise this key enough. Just buy it and stop messing with unreliable cloud services ASAP!
