Bought these as spares for field testing last December so it's typical of shipments around that time - there was a barcode on the box X0028EFDJF. Just used them for new field tests - at 2.4GHz they're terrible - signal strength data collected - they're closer to -5 to -7dB gain - definitely not +9dB. Garbage at least on 2.4 GHz. These high gain antennas are required to have radiation patterns with most of the RF energy directed perpendicular to the antenna so that when oriented vertically they radiate parallel to the ground. At 9 dB gain, a strong signal is typically fifteen degrees below level to 15 degrees above level. 0 dB antenna radiates in all directions (omnidirectional). So they should be great for ground use - lousy for planes (or drones). But I use them on the ground - probably within 2-3 degrees horizontally. A 6dB increase doubles the range. I just tested them against a 2dB antenna with the same radios on 2.4GHz. A cheap 2 dB antenna has almost three times the range of these antennas. a strong, reliable connection three times that of these devices. RE05U is specially designed for 2.4GHz. Unfortunately they are not sold on Amazon. Two possibilities: the six devices I bought in early December were defective, or these antennas were not designed for 2.4 GHz. Note that many modern WiFis use both bands (2.4 and 5.8) so it's possible that they work on 5.8 and people don't realize that they don't work on 2.4. But if you're using IEEE802.15.4 (like us), 5.8 isn't an option.
