Review on Discover the Power of πŸ” ELEGOO Tracking Ultrasonic Intelligent Educational Technology by Daniel Mettler

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It was easy to assemble, my 5 year old fell in love with it

It was easy to assemble, the instructions could be clearer I think. I also ended up with some extra screws that he didn't mention. At first I was disappointed to find that I had received a box. Once I started building I stopped worrying because I realized none of these parts would ever go back in the box. I got to the section where you are trying to upload your code. The first worked fine, moving forward a few feet then stopping and looping. I tried loading the second partition and it failed. In fact, not everything could be loaded after the first one. I was ready to give up at this point but my 5 year old played with the remote control and got him to use the ultrasound and check himself. So I'm not sure what I downloaded and what made it work at all? I didn't think there was code on the board but there should have been. One thing that's not great about the ultrasound is that it can't see stairs. The first thing my 5 year old did was carry him to his room, he ended up in the hallway and rolled down the stairs. This destroyed the gears in the micro servo, but other than that I think everything was fine. Luckily I also bought a megaboard kit which had a spare. I haven't gotten too deep into programming, but it seems pretty basic for what it does now. I have no idea what he's capable of. The thing is, my son is so interested in it that I already want to teach him how to code and I think a physical robot at the age of 5 can do more than a website or application. That alone is worth the price of admission!

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • There are some nuances
