Okay, not really a trick, but it's mostly common sense when you think about it. If this is your first child, you might not even know you can make it. Let's face it, this whole Diaper Genie concept is genius. Who wants to sniff at spoiled diapers being thrown in the bin inside, or going up and down the stairs and taking them to the bin outside? Not me. That's where this little baby (no pun intended) comes in. But unfortunately, as many have pointed out, fillers can get pretty expensive very quickly if you don't use them properly. Bottom line (and only half of my tirade lol), only use it for diaper poop (aka #2). Why take up precious space just for a pee diaper (#1)? Simply toss diapers #1 in whatever trash can you have nearby and take out the trash as usual. In our case, we have a small trash can outside the little man's room, and once a day we empty it into a large trash can and take it outside to an even larger trash can. And once a week an even bigger bin (on wheels) comes by and takes it to an even bigger bin. But for diaper #2, we use Diaper Genie. Since he's a normal guy, we usually don't need to empty the Genie once a day, but once a week. Thus, the service life of each refill is about 2 months and each pack of 3 about 6 months. If you use it this way, it's not a huge financial drain. Well someone else suggested when the bag is full to cut open the bottom of the bag (where the knot is) and empty the diapers into the bin and then tie the genie bag shut and use over and over again. To me it's just rude and possibly dirty. I'm not that desperate and if you only use it on dirty diapers you'll be fine.
