Tried to plug it in, it wouldn't charge my Iphone X. Cable and the bracket has 2 legs that prevent the phone from sliding down and there is a gap where you can connect the cord. But the mount itself goes back to what I said, it has 2 feet that prevent the phone from sliding off and you will trust the mount to hold your phone in it. I grabbed a mains from another charger to use, honestly it's a pain to turn the phone on and off. The screw that keeps the bracket from rotating is weak and needs constant tightening. Having said all that, I've traveled 800 miles and I can handle it. I'll take another mount when I get home, but that'll do for now.
