Review on Keep Drafts Out: 16Ft Long Silicone Seal Strip For Doors, Windows & Showers by Dhoal Black

Perfect solution to an annoying problem

Last year we installed a pet door in our sliding patio door going onto our 3-season room from our family room for the winter. It was a great solution to the "let the dog in, let the dog out" issue in the winter, as we could leave the outside door ajar and still have an insulated way for the dog to get outside by going through the 3-season room. The only problem was that (due to our house not having ANYTHING quite square and plumb), the pet door didn't perfectly align with the sliding patio door. The gap was small at the top, but over 1/4" at the bottom, so on cold, windy days, you got a nice breeze into the family room. Not what we wanted. We tried foam strip insulation and rubber strip insulation, but they either prevented it from closing properly or didn't cover the gap. This season, I tried this strip and it's the perfect solution. It adhered beautifully (comes with a little packet of a cleaning wipe to prep the area just before applying) and covers the gap from top to bottom. It doesn't flop inside the door as it's closing, either (i had feared that it would), but stays put outside of where the doors meet, while still providing an excellent seal. We've already had a couple of really cold, REALLY windy days, and I could stand just inside the door and not feel a breeze. My ONLY quibble (and it's tiny) is that it would be good to have multiple of the little "prep packs" in the kit, as the minimum length I bought is enough for a couple of installations, but there's only one prep pad.

Pros
  • Easily removed for cleaning or replacement
Cons
  • May not be suitable for use on doors or windows with excessive moisture or condensation
