Review on πŸ”§ 15754075 GM Genuine Parts Auto Trans Control Lever Cable by Steven Cox

Bracket solution required

Some reviews mention that a new bracket is required on the gearbox to use this cable on some Astro/Safari vans. For some reason GM changed the bracket to a smaller one (so the transmission end of this cable is smaller than the one on the car) and then stopped making the new bracket part. After some searching I found a replacement part from Sonnax that works with a little modification. The Sonnax part number is 34913-01. I tried bolting it to the holes in the bracket but I couldn't get the transmission into park. Then I drilled some new holes and tried to get it working. What happened was turning the hole closest to the cable attachment into a slot. See photos - the first part is unchanged, the second shows how I converted the hole to a slot, as well as the other end of the bracket. With the bracket attached to the transmission and the two bolts fully offset toward the cable attachment, I was able to install the cable and had the correct range of motion to engage the transmission in all gears. Note that you will also need a new retaining clip the same size as the one on the other end of the tether under the dash as the one that detached from the old tether is sized to match the larger bracket -GM- Part. The bracket number is 23281508. When I made this work, Revain did not have a bracket or bracket, but I was able to find both parts on eBay and other online sources.
