Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty good system, very useful tips for connection / installation in my test report

OK; It's a great backup camera and surveillance system for almost any car. And yes, as others have said, the schematics/instructions are useless, hence the 4 star rating. I did the install myself on a 2008 Ford Fusion for my son - it took us about 3.5 hours. Here are some very helpful tips if you are planning to do it yourself: 1. The real rear view camera should be installed right side up. Which way are you asking? The camera adjustment screws must face down.2. The video cable (yellow RCA plugs on both ends) also has a red wire running alongside it (not shown in the product photos!). Don't ignore it like others have done as this is used to automatically turn on the monitor when reverse gear is engaged.3. The camera has two outputs; One is yellow and that is the video stream that connects to the monitor with the long video cable. The other red one is your power supply for the camera. It has a mating plug ending in a black/red wire. Take the red wire and plug it into the power wire to the reverse light and connect the black wire to the ground source (screw the screw to your car's frame).4. Remember the red wire that runs along the video cable? One end of this ALSO needs to be connected to the backup light power wire - the red wire from the camera power supply (same as above). Note that you will almost certainly need additional cables for this, so have them ready before installing. It just isn't long enough and ends up too close to the RCA video jack. The other end connects to the green wire from the monitor (this harness is also not shown in any of the product images).5. Before ordering this system, examine the inside of your vehicle and try to determine where you will be running the video cable. You can route it under the carpet to the front of the car, or look for a wire duct found in many cars - usually at the bottom of a car's door sills. If you're running cables under carpets, make sure you have a wire catcher; that will help a lot. You can also remove the carpet, but I don't recommend it.6. Both monitor mounts are a bit flimsy (both mounts have a square nut along with a tension wheel - DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THIS or you will break the back cover of the monitor).7. The easiest way to power the front monitor is to use the cigarette lighter socket. Just connect the appropriate wires together. Otherwise you will either have to find a 12 volt wire in the car (fuse box or even tap on the back of the cigarette lighter). You may need to be prepared to drill a hole somewhere near the rear license plate to route the camera cables inside your vehicle; This may depend on the vehicle, but again, be prepared. Before doing this, look at your license plate and imagine that the two camera cables (power and video) are routed inside. Be prepared to remove the interior panels (most likely in the trunk) to route the wiring. These are usually just plastic plugs that slide out (carefully use a flathead screwdriver) and push back in.11. My final tip (and it helped me a lot): Before installing, place the camera on a table or floor. Start by connecting all the wires and lay it out as it will be in your car. See how it all fits together BEFORE you're halfway through the install :-) As mentioned, go to the PyleAudio website and go to the product page; there is only a little usable circuit diagram, but it is a bit better than the enclosed one. Reserve View. As soon as you disengage reverse gear, the monitor turns off. Did!
