Took a ride from a friend. Compared with the younger fifty dollars. Tried on 5d first generation. 1. Vignetting is felt at an open aperture. 4 is ok. 2. A copy of the frontil that fell into my hands. 3. Did not live up to expectations in terms of sharpness. Never better than a fifty. 4. Smears past less often than 50. Conclusions. Taking this glass to replace 50f1.8 is a dubious undertaking - there is no promised ringing sharpness. But instead of a whale, perhaps it will go. I have experience in photography with Minolta 50f1.7 glass. And not without regret I can say that in terms of color and sharpness, minolta leaves Canon's classmates far behind.
