Review on Filtrete 3US MAX S01 Maximum Filtration Installation by Zach Sornsin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Replacing the water and ice filter in the refrigerator. Need more parts.

This is my first review and may be subject to change later depending on how it stands up to the tests. The fridge only filters the water dispenser, not the ice. My fridge has a double ice maker and there is a big difference between filtered ice and unfiltered ice. Also, these tiny fridge filters don't last long and only have basic filtration. Luckily the fridge automatically bypasses the filter inside the fridge as soon as I remove the filter from the fridge, no plug required. I ended up buying additional parts because 1) I wanted better piping and 2) I wanted a flush valve. Flushing a new filter through the fridge dispenser takes forever. Now I have a rotary valve for flushing the new filter. I also do NOT use a plastic threaded socket/adapter as that seemed like a bad idea. Pressurized water and plastic thread are a recipe for disaster. I bought PEX Type B 1/4 inch (3/8od) which is stronger and more durable. The supplied Parker PE Parfax has a wall thickness of 0.62 and according to Parker's website this 0.62 PE pipe is said to last for "several years". It didn't comfort me. 1/4 (3/8od) Pex costs less than $2 for a 5 foot pipe. Also, I've used a brass compression insert/reinforcement in the Pex with a plastic tip, which I'm much more confident with than using a plastic threaded adapter. I also bought a Watts 3/8od to 1/4od adapter to connect to my 1/4 brass umbilical. So far so good and as you can see this filter is much larger than the tiny filter in the fridge. Happy with this attitude!
