Ready to work with 2019 MacBook Pro on LG Monitor

Ready to work with second LG monitor for 2019 Mac Book Pro. They asked to update the Big Sur OS a day after connecting. He said he found non-Apple hardware that could damage the MacBook without an update. Although it worked before the update. Will be updated if I have a long term adapter hardware failure.
