Review on ๐Ÿ“บ DISH Solo HD Receiver (ViP 211z): Enhanced Viewing Experience and Crystal Clear Reception by Jose Smith

Revainrating 2 out of 5

NONE OF THIS IS 'NEW', refurbished units are shit

The DISH Solo HD receiver is a secondary option to the ViP211z. All are DVR compatible with a one-time DVR activation fee and customer-supplied external USB storage. DISH Support CONFIRMS that 211z-s does not support DVR, but after two levels of escalation the DVR activation code is passed to DISH. NO 211Z IS *UNUSED* "NEW". It is no longer manufactured, so ALL are "Factory Refurbished", with no dyno documentation of quality control tests passed post-refurbishment. Not very comforting. I activated my device on June 25, 2020 and on August 22, 2020 it crashed with error 019, no smart card inserted. The device, like all other direct-connected devices, was plugged into a computer-grade UPS with surge protection from day one. Of course, the original chip card is inserted correctly. All receiver reset/restore procedures were performed without restoring function/service. The internal chip card reader suddenly failed. Still under DISH warranty but still a big disappointment. DISH will replace it with another repaired unit but does not wish to return the defective unit. When operating as a receiver/DVR, the program guide and scheduler expands to just over two weeks of scheduled listings. The program guide details show the episode number and original air date (which are not displayed on non-DVR 211z-s). Occasionally, program information is inadvertently missing for week two's events, but eventually appears as the date approaches. Live broadcast can be rewound/paused/resumed (not available on 211z-s models without DVR). Content already recorded on the DVR in memory can be viewed while recording a live program. Occasionally there will be 0.5 second DVR playback glitches even though all DVR recordings are intact. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU PROTECT THIS PURCHASE WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IF YOU PLAN TO USE IT MORE THAN THE DISH WARRANTY.
