Purchased on 09/19/2020. The temperature control was released around December 30th, 2020. Set it to 82 degrees. The device shows 87 degrees. The "On" light is off. A meat thermometer stuck in the water reads 66 degrees. My guess is that somehow water got into the block (bad sealant/poor quality control). For $30/40 you get an aesthetic device with a nice light display that will last for several months before failing. Once the unit was placed in the water it was never out of the water (water changes were never so small that the unit was above the waterline). Bought this device based on positive reviews. My guess is that these are written shortly after receiving the device and are not follow-up reviews giving an accurate indication of durability. Save money and buy a well-known brand. I usually do this when I'm buying things because I don't like contributing to the throwaway mentality. Unfortunately, this device will likely end up in a trash can, decompose in the environment, and hopefully the microplastics it contains will wash up on China's shores. Nonsense and I'm not very optimistic, my feedback or message to the company that produces this will be answered. If you're lucky with that heater, I believe the revolver's chamber was loaded when I pulled the trigger and bought it.
