Received a 3/8" cobalt drill bit from Bosch yesterday morning and drilled ten holes in 2" 6 foot thick sheet steel. bar for about 45 minutes yesterday afternoon. The beam is used to reinforce the wooden roof beam on a small porch (bolted to the side of the wooden beam). I spent most of my time changing the rod's position for each subsequent hole, and the actual drilling time for each hole was about a minute. I used a small Rockwell drill that I bought from Revain last spring and now sells for about $180. I chose this particular drill because the 3 small flats on the shank prevent the drill from slipping in the chuck jaws and there was no slipping. I ran the drill at 600 rpm and sprayed a little bit of black cutting fluid on the drill several times as I drilled each hole. The main thing is to have the drill cut and turn it out several times so that it cools down and pours out the chips. The drill is still like new. That's why I gave 5 stars.
