Review on πŸ”‹ SGP32 Battery Relay Isolator by Stinger by Jared Winebrenner

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Too small. look elsewhere

Smaller than it looks. Too low for 200 amps DC. After opening it, I repackaged it and sent it back. Maybe good for something light like a stereo, but not for battery life, especially in a van or boat. I bought a Surepower 1315 instead. Equally rated, but most notably the high-power ports. The battery separator is written, but in fact the combiner combines when charging. It's not fair, I know - it costs twice as much. Sometimes manufacturers (and buyers) do not think about the case when this switch turns on two batteries in parallel, when one is fully charged and the other is discharged. In this case, there is a lot of current flowing when they are plugged in, and the device (and batteries) either have to deal with it, or there has to be some way to limit the current. The second way is easier on batteries and switch contacts, and Surepower does this with external air-cooled belts. I've used it with a fully charged starter battery connected to a completely discharged house battery (with the engine running) with no problems.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • poorly thought out
