Review on πŸ’‘ Enhance Your Philips Hue Lights with the Philips Hue Smart Motion Sensor (Installation-Free and Exclusive - Hue Hub Required) by Kyle Robinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

You cannot use 2 sensors for the same group of lights (e.g. 3-way)

I have a long L-shaped hallway with eight doors. I placed a sensor at two strategic points to cover the entire room and both controlled the 4 ceiling lights. The two sensors do not work together at all. As I walk down the hall, the first sensor turns on the light. If I turn and stop on the other half, the second sensor never takes control of the light. When the first sensor times out, the light turns off. I could dance in front of the 2nd sensor and it would NOT turn on the light. I have to leave the premises and come back in a minute before the lights come on. I totally understand why this is happening, but I was hoping that the system would recognize that there are 2 sensors controlling the same group of lights and do an OR logic test to control the lights (e.g.: On OR On = On, On OR Off = On, Off OR Off = Off). So you can use two sensors for a three-way switching scenario. nope Instead, I had to use Lutron occupancy sensors (not a smart solution, but they work fine when connected properly). These Hue sensors work great in a small room or closet, so I repurposed them for pantry and storage. Got a star for two reasons: 1) they are a bit big and 2) adding the sensors back to the system was TERRIBLE. I removed the sensors first because I wasn't sure if I would reuse them. Then when I decided I wanted to add them back, they just weren't found. I had to factory reset the bridge (erase everything) and reconfigure EVERYTHING - every bulb, every schedule, every scene. It was the only way to get the sensors back. Totally inappropriate.

Pros
  • Connect to a Nest or Samsung SmartThings system. Each kit includes a Hue motion sensor with two AAA alkaline batteries, a magnet, screws, a manual and a two-year warranty.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
