Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mac Mini HDMI fixed at 2560 x 1080 = 10 stars, unicorns and rainbows!

Fixed my Mac resolution issue for $18 instead of $160 as recommended by Apple. I have a mid 2011 Mac Mini and a 37 inch LG ultrawide monitor. I also have a desktop PC and a Surface Pro. also connected to monitor Monitor inputs: DP, 2x HDMI and DVI Surface Pro connected to DP and PC to HDMI Both project 2560 x 1080 smoothly through monitor Mac Mini never worked when connected via HDMI which looked like 4:3 a 16 :9 TV. After years of frustration and solving this problem, I found that the Mac Mini is only limited to 1920x1080 when connected to the HDMI port, but runs at 2560x1080 when using the Thunderbolt port. with an MDP>DP cable. But since the DP port on my monitor was occupied, I figured I'd have to live with the worst HDMI connection on the Mac. Then I found out about Apple's active adapter, which guarantees 2560 x 1080 resolution by converting the Thunderbolt connection to dual or NK-DVI - but the adapter costs $100 and the dual-link DVI cable I used need would cost $60. There was a link to this product on an internet forum about the Mac Mini resolution. I've tried other more expensive MDP (Thunderbolt) to HDMI converters and cables in the past to solve this problem and none of them worked - I didn't even know there were active adapters and passive adapters! For $18, rebooted my computer, and used my existing HDMI cable, this active adapter brought me the 2560 x 1080 glory I've been chasing for the past 4 years, and I couldn't be happier! Terrific!
