Review on πŸ”Œ CURT 56175 2-Wire Splice-in Tail Light Converter, 4-Pin Wiring Harness with Non-Powered Function, Black by Dejuan Stott

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Does not run to rated current

Two stars can be too generous. Bought to hook up a 2001 Malibu to tow a small utility trailer. Wiring and testing with a meter and trailer wiring tester showed it to work well. However once the trailer is connected there is no output, the converter still has input voltage but no output when the brakes or signals are used. A well-stocked electronics store helps; turned on the trailer lights with a DC power supply and found the current drawn was just under 2.6 amps. Curts' own website states that this converter can handle up to 3 amps, but it doesn't. Sent back for exchange, same problem with the new unit. More wasted time. Finally solved by replacing the brake/warning lights with LEDs, the total maximum current draw with both lights on is only 0.5 amps and the converter has no problem with that. A lot of time is wasted and extra money spent trying to use this product. If you can't find the best product at a reasonable price, I would suggest reviewing the current total needs of your bulbs and replacing them with LEDs. If you don't have the meter you need, you can google the part number of each bulb used in your trailer and add up the amps listed in the specs to find your total power needs.
