I swim in a mermaid tail and I want to make my own bra, so I decided to make my own scales out of it. With that in mind, they were too thin on their own to achieve the effect, but I glued two sheets together and colored them, which gave me the thickness I wanted. The sheets hold acrylic paint well and are very easy to cut even when glued together. If you want to make a stencil I would still glue two sheets together to make it hold a little better.
