The screw at the bottom of the shaft is very small and easily lost. I don't think its diameter can be placed in a hardware store because it's not a wing nut. It would be much better if they had a metal washer and wing nut. My friend bought one of these for his parrot and it has already lost the screw on the bottom that keeps fruit etc from falling off. Now she can't use it anymore so she wasted her money. I almost lost mine and I also have a hard time using it because my fingers are numb so it's very easy to slip through my fingers. If they could change that it's a good product otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.
