The broken HDD causes browser tabs to remain open for a long time after being idle, as stated here. The computer locks up and loads the screw to capacity at the slightest provocation. The transfer rate lowers from a normal 28 mb/s to 12 mb/s while copying huge files to a flash device. The 16 MB of cache appears to be going unused. A local download from this disk would make it impossible for you to conduct any work, even if the download speed were 2 mb/sec. Even though they fail after just one use and cause serious data loss, my company keeps buying Seagate hard drives for all of our computers and servers.
