I bought these to hang my eBags laptop bag under my desk. The desktop is laminated all around with a very smooth finish, and the case (including contents) weighs a whopping 5 pounds 6 ounces. I used two cups oriented so the strap mounts face each other and positioned so the straps make a 30 degree angle with the underside of the table; two clips were connected by a carabiner. I removed the plastic wrap from both cups. I wiped down the surface and cups with 91% isopropyl alcohol. I tried them dried right out of the package. I tried some water on cups. I tried soaking the cups in hot water and then locking them on the table while the cups were warm with some water in them to help seal. I tried to apply a very thin film of oil around the edges. The maximum time my bag stayed attached to the table was about 24 hours. I'll throw them in the truck and see if they're good for camping, but I'm really unimpressed with their abilities.
