Review on ๐Ÿบ Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil with Pump - 7.5 Gallon All Grain Home Brewing System by Heather Jones

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not that bad. on Homebrew Starter Kits

I've brewed a few batches with this machine and am generally very happy with it. I'll start with a bad thing I encountered: the two spot welds attaching the recirculation tube to the top of the kettle came loose before I had finished my second brew session. That's why I'm giving it four stars instead of five. I didn't offend, and a good weld shouldn't be less durable than the metal that joins it. It was just a bad weld and now I have to fix it. Nothing should fall off the second time you use it, and I hope that's not an omen. Now for some neutral points. First, the mash hangs up very easily - probably because the grain layer inside the "malt pipe" basket is very high. Aside from the very slow filtration, this is a problem with mash recirculation as it is very difficult to avoid running the pump dry when all the wort is hanging over the grain bed and barely seeping through. Luckily, mashed rice husks are easy to fix, but you should use them in almost every batch. So not bad, but different. Another thing is that the clog does not keep the set temperature; it changes when the mash cools a few degrees, then the heating element turns on and heats it up again. I don't think it really matters if you're aware and not trying to rest right on the edge of the temperature range. Now something I like! I love that it's electric and has a delay timer because I feel a lot safer walking away from it than brewing beer on my stovetop or propane lamp. This is an advantage when trying to combine a brew day with work, sleep, etc. It's nice to have a kettle for boiling and a mash tun in one. That saves space. It's pretty easy to clean, and the pump makes it even easier. No need to lift and empty a kettle filled with PBW solution, just pump it out. Looks cool, which is actually more important than it looks; Besides the space savings, I really appreciate having fewer weird home brewing gadgets scattered around my house on brew day. And something else surprised me: the whole system is much simpler than it seems. This, combined with the handles on this model, makes it fairly easy to slide in and out of storage. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase, so far nothing has broken.
