The first toaster was burnt #4 toast. Ordered a second one and it worked great on #1-4 for a while. Now #4 is burning the toast and I have to reduce it to 2. Anything over 4 and you have black toast. That said, as long as I can get toast that doesn't burn, I'm fine with that, but as far as using all the numbers for a different amount of toast, that's NOT the case. Would I buy this model again, no. I would pay more and get better quality. However, it is a very compact size, very beautiful, it is perfect!
