Review on πŸ”ͺ Norton IM200 Sharpening System: Triple Tool Sharpener by Shawn Sims

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good system, best for power tools and hand tools

This is the first knife sharpening system I've used but I'm very impressed. My knives got pretty dull and when I first experienced this I ran my knives through the grit many times, then to medium, then to fine. My knives are noticeably sharper, but not as sharp as I would like. I used my knives for a couple of weeks, then took them out and sharpened them again to medium and then to fine. Now my knives were pretty sharp. This system has a learning curve if you've never hand-sharpened a knife before. I believe once I master this system it will be worth the money. You can sharpen your knife at any angle you want. The guide included with the system is not very good. To use it, leave a guide on one end, line up the knife, and then simulate cutting a thinly sliced stone. You shouldn't apply a lot of pressure, but you do need to hold the knife at a constant angle. I think I maintained a much more constant angle on the second approach. I see that many stones come with only one stone. It has 3 stones in a nice container that stays on the table well. Instead of holding the stone with your fingers and wasting an inch or two of workspace, you can use the full 8 inches of the cutting edge. I have a 10" chef's knife and am very good at sharpening it on these stones. The instructions say you can use either water or mineral oil with the stones. I've only tried the mineral oil that came with the stones and it works well. This product seems being a steal compared to the larger version, the larger version is approximately 33% larger but also costs 150% more.
